Bloomsburg University Falls to Central State in Women's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG-- Ijeoma Ofomata scored a game-high 22 points to lead Central State of Ohio to a 56-49 win over Bloomsburg University in women's basketball action on Tuesday night at the Nelson Field House.
Both teams struggled in the early going with Central (2-2) getting on the board first three minutes into the game when Latisha Walker scored. The Huskies (2-2) got their first points with 12:48 to play in the half when Nicole Boone (Mountaintop/Crestwood) scored on a jumper. Central would later push their lead to 10 points at 17-7 when Walker hit a jumper with 5:56 to go in the first half. The Huskies, though, came back and trimmed the deficit to five at the break with Kirby Johnson (Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) leading the way with five points.
In the second half, Central used a 10-3 run to open the half, with Walker scoring five points, to go in front 33-21. Bloomsburg, though, outscored the visitors 9-2 over the next five minutes with Kelly Joyce (Ashland/Cardinal Brennan) scoring four of the nine points for the Huskies to make it a 35-30 with 12:18 to play.
Bloomsburg would later trim the lead to just four at 41-37 on another basket by Boone. But Ofomata scored four straight points and Taya Kidd connected on a three-pointer to push the lead back to nine points, 50-41, with 4:30 to play.
The Huskies got to within seven points twice in the final minutes, but Kidd hit a couple of free throws to seal the victory.
Along with Ofamata's 22 points, Walker finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Kidd added 10 points for Central.
Bloomsburg got 10 points from Joyce and nine from Gabe Miskinis (Lewistown/Lewsitown) in the loss. The Huskies play at the District of Columbia on Thursday at 7 p.m.
